I’ve been using this sofa table as a work table in the garage since I got it at an estate sale about a month ago. I just didn’t have the motivation to fix it up because I didn’t really have a vision for it yet. It was just so blah and it took me a while to figure out how to make it stand out.
My friend Avery from East Egg Style is part of the Repurpose Design Series that I am also a part of. One of her projects for this series was a sideboard that she made out of barn wood and salvaged wood legs. It is beautiful! After seeing her amazing work I knew that I wanted to add a shelf to the bottom of this sofa table. Here is the before…
First I had to figure out how to attach the shelf. I found some old molding in the garage and cut each piece and attached them to the legs using the Kreg Jig. Here’s a picture of the legs.
I then cut some wood I found in the garage and glued them to the molding to create the shelf.
At this point I had already sanded the top and re-stained it with dark walnut stain. Once the shelf was complete I painted it with Americana Décor Chalk Paint. I mixed Relic and Yesteryear to create this color. I finished the top with Minwax wipe-on poly and I used General Finishes Topcoat for the rest of the table.
Have a great week!
